Preschoolers in the UK and Ireland are set for more heart-warming adventures with their favourite coat-clad bear, as Paddington returns to screens in the brand-new CG-animated series The Adventures of Paddington!
Airing on Channel 5's free-to-air preschool strand Milkshake! from October 2020, The Adventures of Paddington centres on a younger Paddington as he writes letters to Aunt Lucy celebrating the new things he has discovered through the day's exciting activities. The series is a Heyday Films and STUDIOCANAL production in association with Copyrights.
Actor Ben Whishaw (Paddington 1 & 2) reprises his role as the voice of the title character, alongside new cast members Morwenna Banks, Bobby Beynon, Sheena Bhattessa, Darren Boyd, Noel Clarke, Phyllis Logan, Monica Lopera, Sabrina Newton-Fisher, David Schofield, Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen, Inside No. 9), Liz Sutherland-Lim and Jeremiah Waysome.
The Adventures of Paddington will also feature a brand-new theme song "Paddington Bear" written and performed by one of Britain's most successful musicians, Gary Barlow (Take That).
The Adventures of Paddington made its UK pay-TV debut on Nick Jr. UK & Ireland in March, where it became the channel's No. 1 afternoon show at launch. The series is still the No. 3 show overall on the channel with 1.6 million viewers from March to June.
To coincide with the show's FTA launch, master toy partner Rainbow Designs will be launching its The Adventures of Paddington preschool toy range in October. The toy line will feature a soft and cuddly Deluxe Paddington Plush. Standing at 33cm tall, the bear wears his famous red hat and his duffle coat features real toggles, allowing it to be removed for added play value. The lovable soft toy also comes complete with a letter to Aunt Lucy and a map of London. The range will also feature collectable 22cm soft toys of Paddington in different outfits, such as his iconic coat and hat and his pyjamas. Outside of plush, the range will also offer plastic Paddington figures with movable arms and a fun Double Decker Bus play set.
Speaking about why the iconic character is still beloved today, Zara Grindrod, sales director at master toy partner Rainbow Designs told Toy World Magazine: "Paddington is an adored, evergreen brand; a character that has been in playrooms and formed a part of children's bedtime story routines for decades. Paddington's wholesome, kind, adventurous and fun-loving character resonates with grandparents and parents. The new The Adventures of Paddington toy range is all about inspiring preschoolers to create their own adventures with Paddington, igniting their imagination and encouraging learning through play." The Adventures of Paddington (52 X 11') is directed by Adam Shaw and Chris Drew of Blue Zoo (Go Jetters, Digby Dragon, Miffy, Q Pootle 5), and developed for television and written by Jon Foster and James Lamont (The Amazing World of Gumball, Cuckoo, Paddington 1 & 2). The series is executive produced by multi-award winner David Heyman (producer of all eight of the Harry Potter films, Paddington 1 & 2) and Rosie Alison (Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Paddington 1 & 2). The Adventures of Paddington is produced by Karen Davidsen (formerly with Disney and HIT Entertainment) and Simon Quinn (Isle of Dogs, Fantastic Mr. Fox), and co-produced by Rob Silva.
